Optimising collection point on spatial modelling

Hello everyone,

I have a map displaying the pollution hot spots, which I model in Simile. Now I want to put in the model collection points for treatment of the pollution by directing waste from other parishes, which are represented as polygons to that collection point.  Is there any one who have an idea of how to go about modelling this so that it appears on the spatial map?

Best,

Richard

Hello again Richard,

Can you tell us a bit more about how your model represents spatial interactions at the moment? For instance, do you have a neighbour relationship between polygons?

Thanks for the quick reply.

Have not include any interaction between the polygons. What I have done is that each polygon have population, which is controlled by the population density. The waste pollution is computed as the product of population size in each polygon and the waste generation rates for the three groups of population. The population group are the poor, the rich and medium income. Have assigned a different code for each population group and also for the polygon where they are located.

Please advise if there is need to have interaction between the polygons.

Richard

Hello Jasper,

I have emailed the model for you to have a look on the spatial modelling and what I intend to do in optimising the waste collection.

Best wishes,

Richard

Hello Jasper,

Just checking if you have seen the mail I sent to you.

Richard

Hello Jasper,

Have tried the association link to address this but no positive answer. When I sum up the list it exceed the maximum threshold in the model though it should not be.

Best,

Richard

Hi Richard, sorry for the pause on this...no, I haven't received any email on this topic -- please send it to support@simulistics.com

Hello Jasper,

Have just email the model and the necessary files. Please let me know if you get it.

Richard

Hi

have simulated the model for some runs it send a error message "some values resulting from maths errors have not been plotted" Does it means that there a mathematical problem or it pass the time.

Richard

Hi, I got the model OK. The message you saw appears when you have a value going to a display tool that is the result of division by zero or otherwise is too large to represent. I don't see anything like that when I run the model, but maybe I am not looking at the right variable.

To develop the model as you require, you will first have to set up a 'neighbour relationship' between the polygons. This is described in the help files under Association Submodels. Please look at the help on this website rather than the help files included in the Simile distribution, as I have been updating it recently.

Once you have a neighbour relationship you will be able to use it to pass information about waste levels between neighbouring polygons, and to create interflows between them. If all adjoining polygons count as neighbours, then perhaps you can use shared boundary coordinates to establish the relationship. Or you may have the information elsewhere.

Anyway, what you have to do is create a list containing all the pairs of indices of polygons that can exchange materials. I will then look at using this to build the neighbour association submodel.

Dear Jasper,

Thanks for the help. I will read the help file you suggested. But it seems I have failed how to go about creating the neighbour association. You help will is highly appreciated in advance.

The errors occurs when I have ran the model for about 1800 times. I think it is in line the value being too big to be plotted. But I also see the same when generating the result in table.

Best Richard.

Dear Jasper,

I have sent the indices for the polygons through the support email. The column which is bold is the poly and the unbold polygons are the neighbour polygons. see if it is the request you made or is better to use the boundary coordinates.

Best, Richard

Dear Jasper,

I tried to run the model and a message pop up asking for X- and Y- coords. Have no idea of how to use the other file params_with_nbrsold. Please can you advise me on how to use it. I am also trying to see how to use the relations in the sample models in the catalog. I will let you know in case I fail to go through.

 Regards

Richard
